Private Residence Kitchen Design
Created for a private residence in Dubai, this kitchen brings traditional craft together with a contemporary, dramatic interior language. At its centre, a tiger motif transforms the kitchen from a functional room into the home’s most compelling visual focus.
Material and Atmosphere
Warmth within a dark palette
The material palette is built around warm brown tones, black details, natural stone and aged brass. High-gloss burl-wood-effect cabinetry gives every door a different grain expression, while slim black frames and the restrained surfaces of integrated appliances bring discipline to the richness of the wood.
Dark natural stone with pronounced pale veining was selected for the worktops and backsplash. Rounded island corners soften the weight of the material, and the continuous stone surface reinforces the kitchen’s cohesive, sculptural presence.
The Focal Point
A tiger mosaic shaped by hand
The tiger is conceived as a bespoke art panel assembled from hundreds of small mosaic pieces in brown, amber, cream, black and terracotta. Its eyes, facial planes, stripes and fur transitions are formed not only by colour, but by the length, angle and directional placement of every individual piece.
For figurative mosaics at this scale, the tesserae are hand-cut by artisans to a full-scale template. Panels are prepared in numbered sections in the workshop, transported to site and completed at their joints. A linear concealed light reveals subtle surface variations and natural reflections, giving the tiger a deeper, more dramatic presence in the evening.
Art, Material and Function
A singular experience for daily life
The ambition was to create a richly detailed kitchen without allowing it to feel busy or uncontrolled. The tiger mosaic carries a powerful narrative, while the surrounding cabinetry and stone remain within the same colour family to maintain visual coherence.
Brushed brass, a dark sink and smoked-glass pendants complete the warm metal language. Concealed LEDs below the worktop and within display shelves reveal grain and depth, while the light ceiling and daylight prevent the dark material palette from feeling heavy.
